Donny Hathaway - In Performance (1977)

Not to be confused with Donny Hathway Live, this album was issued after Donny's untimely death, and features rare live material from his classic years (the stuff's not dated, but given the venues, we assume that some of it was recorded around the same time as the original Live album). As the fame of his first concert album will attest, Donny's an extremely wonderful live performer, with a wealth of talents that show that his studio work is only half the picture of his soulful creativity. Includes a great version of "Sack Full Of Dreams", plus "Nu-Po", "Song For You", "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know", and "To Be Youg, Gifted, & Black". (Cover has a cutout notch.)

  1. Great live album recorded at the same time than the "Live" album issued in 72. Donny wanted to do a 2LP live album but Atlantic didn't agree.
Nu-Po was recorded at the Newport Jazz festival in NYC, June 1973.
