THE CHRIS HINZE COMBINATION - SISTER SLICK (1974)

And we're back! For the beat diggers, it's The Chris Hinze Combination again. 'Sister Slick' is pretty fusion-ish. Long tracks, incredibly busy solos and a lot of tempo variations. But this is definitely an album to check out from start to finish. Besides Chris' crazy flute work, make sure to listen closely to the massive bass playing by John Lee. He doesn't just play Fender Bass, no, he also uses some minor distortion on it. And that's exactly what gives this record the balls to enjoy it. It just sounds fat. Or should I say 'phat'? Every track has a stupendous break. Every track. And especially the first three songs on the album are brilliant. The break in 'Skyrider', the famous break from 'Easy Answering' that was once milked by The Beatnuts and then the superfunky intro of 'I Like To Feed A Smile On Your Face'. Fabulous stuff.
