A monster of a rare funk album -- recorded by a tight little combo who should have been huge! Raw Soul Express have a touch of jazz in their playing -- coming off here with a sound that reminds us of Wood Brass & Steel, and a rare few other funk acts of the time who knew how to do more than just hit a heavy drum and pluck a noisy bass! Not that the band is slick, though, because they definitely earn the "raw" in their name with some sharp edges on the instrumentation -- it's just that they're great at what they do, with a quality level that shows up on more than a few of the album's sparkling tracks. Titles include "RSE", "Burn The Candle", "Music Meditation", "Right On", and "Emergency".
