Masterpiece - The Girl's Alright With Me (1980)

A great later production by Norman Whitfield -- and one that almost returns to the simpler harmony soul of 60s Motown! Masterpiece have a style that's much more fragile and sweet than other groups on the Whitfield label -- which was mostly dedicated to fuller and dancefloor soul. The harmonies here are really classic -- almost acapella inspired at times, although recorded with plenty of fuller backings arranged by Norman -- and the vocals are very upfront in the mix, and really given plenty of room to move around. Titles include "The Girl's Alright With Me", "High On Love", "We Like To Get Down", "Take A Look Around", "Thank You For The Love", "Love Is What You Make It", and a version of "You + Me = Love". - pascal.gf.
