DEBORAH WASHINGTON, LOVE AWAITS *** 1979
Catchy club and upbeat boogie from Deborah Washington -- a set that's arguably tighter than her previous album on Ariola! Arrangements are by Gary Scott, who brings in some slight echoes of the European disco sound of the late 70s -- not so much the colder electricity as the ear for hook-heavy tunes that might cross over big to a mainstream dancefloor, which is clearly where this set was aimed. Titles include "Rock It", "Boogie Baby", "Back In Love Again", "Can't Be A Fool For Love", "Loving You", "Loneliness", and "For The Love Of Him".

Brother to Brother - 1974 - In The Bottle
First lp 1974 from the band ! Essential soulful cut !!! In-demand rare lp.
Great groovy stuff including Brother to Brother’s fabulous cover of the Gil Scott-Heron track “The Bottle” done here with a cool flanged vocal chorus on the lyrics, and a tight jazzy groove that reproduces the feel of the original, but adds some soulful female vocals! A lovely cover of N. Whitfield’s “I Wish It Would Rain” and “Hey, What’s That You say” a cover of Wood, Brass & Steel.

DRAC *** 1987 *** DRAC ATTACK
Funksters just coming out of age during the late 70's. Funk Apex will recall a track from the "Slave" LP of 1978, called "The Concept".
A Prime entry in the history of funk, the band, "Slave" was formed by Mark "Drac" Hicks, who started a group called "Black Satin Soul". In the early 70's, this group eventually turned into the group "Slave". At one time their boasting and impressive roster employed close to 20 musicians. "Slave" charted an outstanding 20 singles on the R&B charts between 1977 and 1987.
Guitarist and Vocalist Mark Hicks was an important part of this legendary line up. One of the songs which launched "Drac's" career, was the single "Slide" by Slave.
