A monster bit of funk that's unlike anything else we can think of! Beginning Of The End hailed from The Bahamas, but don't hold that against them -- because instead of being a Caribbean cliche, they took the best part of the island rhythms, and used them to forge an incredible approach to funk! They've got a choppy sound that's the result of some incredibly dexterous guitar, bass, and drums -- and which you'll recognize instantly from their one-time hit "Funky Nassau", a killer funk track that never gets old, no matter how many bands cover it over the years! That gem kicks off the album, which then rolls into the monster funky "part 2", which is even better! Other titles are equally wonderful -- and include "Come Down", "Surrey Ride", "Monkey Tamarind", and "In The Deep". Essential -- and one that you'll be spinning for years!

Arpeggio breaks out with a great set of grooves -- the kind of snapping, soulful numbers we loved them for in the late 70s -- served up here with a tighter 80s sound overall! The trio lineup packs plenty of punch -- often singing together on the choruses, then breaking someone out for a solo moment -- and the arrangements by Sam Brown III are often in an upbeat mode, but a bit different than the usual club from the time. Plenty of control here -- as Ray Parker's at the height of his 80s hitmaking power, scoring strongly on one of his key classics from the decade for Arista! The tunes have a bit more of that catchy, rhythm-heavy sound that Parker was forging at the start of the decade -- a quality that moves away from straight mainstream soul into crossover territory that would only suit Ray even more strongly a few years later. There's plenty of numbers here that aim strongly for radio play on both sides of the fence, but Parker balances things out with enough traces of his roots to keep things interesting. Titles include "Electronic Lover", "Woman Out Of Control", "Invasion", "N2U2", "She Still Feels The Need", and "In The Heat Of The Night".

Ray Parker's definitely a single man at this point in his career -- leaving behind his earlier role in the Raydio group, and working here as writer and producer on a string of 80s hits! The album follows strongly in the catchy, crossover mode of Parker's work from the middle part of the decade -- almost equally balanced between mainstream rock and soul styles of the time -- with lots of popping rhythms and plenty of Ray's guitar underneath his vocals. Titles include "I'm A Dog", "Sex & The Single Man", "I'm In Love", "Girls Are More Fun", "Good Time Baby", and "Everybody Wants Someone".
